Walking Boat by Andrew Baldwin

The Walking Boat, an extraordinary, kinetic work of art created by sculptor Andrew Baldwin, sailed into - or is it onto? - London on Thursday 12 May 2011 to the delight of crowds outside the Tate Modern. This astonishing 40ft walking boat took two years to construct, and is the culmination of an artist’s imaginative vision, dedication and exceptional talent as sculptor and blacksmith.

Since then, Andrew has been constructing another boat for an altogether different adventure. She is the ScaryMary, and he hopes that she will carry him both to and across Canada. Yes, across Canada. When he gets there, Andrew plans to scour local scrap yards for parts and turn the boat into a wheeled vehicle, which he'll drive across the country. When he gets to the other side, he’ll then set sail on the Pacific with it!

You can read more about and see the Walking Boat on the the walking boat page, and the ScaryMary on the projects page.

News: The Walking Boat will be taking part in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant on Sunday, 3rd June 2012
